The NRL's worst kept secret has come out, with Canberra Raiders five-eighth Jack Wighton signing a four year deal with the South Sydney Rabbitohs from next year until the end of the 2027 season.
The big question on most Rabbitohs fans minds would be where does he fit into their roster? He probably won't be replacing Cody Walker at five-eighth or Latrell Mitchell at fullback any time soon unless Cody Walker or Latrell Mitchell are selected for representative duty as Wighton has retired from representative football, so the only place he would probably fit would be centre, which means bad news for Isiah Tass, who is most likely going to be the man to step aside to accommodate Wighton.
As a long time fan, I'm not to sure how I feel about this yet, on one hand I'm excited to see the partnership of Wighton and Campbell Graham but I'm not happy with letting a young player such as Tass or even Blake Taafe go.
Blake Taafe was told by Jason Demetriou that he sees him at the club long term, but the last few weeks Taafe has been in the reserves.
Then there's Liam Knight, who is due back next week, who will probably most likely return via the bench against the Storm, does a player like Knight or Jed Cartwright make way to accommodate Wighton's spot in our top 30, who knows?
Overall, I'm very interested to see how Wighton fits in at the Rabbitohs, but I'm very concerned about who will have to make way because the Rabbitohs have a lot of good young players in our top 30 or outside of that, and I don't want to see them leave.
Anyway, that's my thoughts on this situation, let's see how it plays out.
Peace Out, Tragics ✌️
